Manga Review: Yotsuba! Vol 1

Yotsubato

This week I reviewed Yotsuba Vol.1 by Kiyohiko Azuma creator of Azumanga Daioh, one of the funniest mangas I have read. The series is ongoing in Japan, up to it’s 10th volume. In the states Vol. 10 is set to release in October 2011, by YenPress.

Overall thoughts

This is a feel good and silly slice of life comic that just leaves you with a smile on your face after every read. I know it really made my day to reread this manga. There is definitely some stupid humor but there is an innocent silliness to it as well.

Plot

Plot? What plot? There is only humor and sillyness and I love every oddity that is brought up. There is just something to say about falling in love with an imaginary little girl with oddly kept green hair, but Yotsuba is just the most aborable character I have come across.

Art

There is not mistaking this art style. I recognized it that moment I first saw the cover of this manga. It has a mix of realistic settings and background with rounded character designs that look like a mixture of 50′s style anime and 90′s style anime. It is cute and allows for the continued mix of reality and fantastic plot of this manga.

I give this manga 8 out of 10 and recommend it for you private manga collection.
